Rosie’s Disobedient Press

Rosie’s Disobedient Press is an artist-led publisher based in Govanhill, Glasgow. Rosie’s began as a collaboration between two friends, Lis and Adrien, to explore how writing and language manifest within visual and material practice. Now, alongside Georgia and Emmy, Rosie’s is a multidisciplinary small press, working both nationally and internationally, in response to artists working with language in a multitude of ways; including events, commissions, workshops, audio works, interviews and book projects. Our relationships with our artists, writers, readers and our wider community are at the heart of what we do.

Rosie’s is interested in cross-genre and experimental forms, and a variety of work from marginalised perspectives. We carry the phrase ‘never give up on getting somewhere’ by Callie Gardener with us everywhere. This phrase has stayed with us from the very first conversations we had about what Rosie's could be, the idea of momentum, of moving forward - sometimes against all odds. The collectiveness of being together, sharing work, challenging structures and also each other.

and so we continue,

With Love and Disobedience

Join us for the launch of our most recent collection another evolution featuring works by JJJJJerome Ellis, Mira Mattar, Robert Glück, Daisy Lafarge, Sue Tompkins, Charlie Prodger and designed by Rosen Eveleigh.

another revolution explores the different ways in which writing and language operates as and alongside visual mediums. Engaging in practices that use writing as form, as part of a material cosmology, as part of a motivation and exploring the differing degrees of why and how artists are doing this. –Images: Rosen Eveleigh, designer.

Plastic Milk
Megan Rudden

Plastic Milk by Megan Rudden is a hybrid artist’s book exploring the strange, tidal territory of motherhood. Moving between memoir, research and material practice, it considers the intimate entanglements between the maternal body and the environments it inhabits.

The pamphlet follows the substances that pass between us, and the things we cannot keep outside: chemicals, children, grief, care and capitalism. Through water, membranes, toxicity and the salt marsh, Megan’s writing traces the porous boundaries between mother and child, body and environment, and the domestic and ecological. What happens when we stop imagining the maternal body—and the individual self—as sealed and autonomous?

Plastic Milk is an unsettling meditation on motherhood, ecological entanglement and what it means to be porous. –Images by Musheto Fernández, designer.

The City, The Damned
Issac Harris

The city, The damned by Isaac Harris - a new radio work as part of Govanhill Festival broadcasting on Radio Buena Vida.

The city, The damned is a recurrent text exploring themes of nomadology, the constant change of people and places, and the impressed vagrancy of immigrant communities under an increasing state of pressure.
