OPEN CALL

Deadline 22nd May 2023

Rosie’s Disobedient Press is an artist-led publishing project based in Glasgow which focuses on writing from marginalised perspectives with a focus on queer, working class and feminist writers. The press is run by Lisette May Monroe and Adrien Howard and works directly with artists and writers to create unique projects on a small scale and across multiple forms, including online and printed publishing, writing, sound and live events.

Each year we are committed to producing an anthology of writing which brings together writers based both near and far at different stages of their practice.  Within this we also include two previously unpublished writers based in Scotland and then work with them to also make their first individual pamphlets.

Alongside this, in a separate strand, we will also be working with an emerging practitioner based in Scotland as part of our Emerging Artist Writers Programme. The selected practitioner will receive a package of support (detailed below) to create their first print pamphlet. We will also provide practical advice sessions on distribution for the work. As part of this opportunity we are keen to work with the selected participant to share strategies of self publishing, so any work produced will be not distributed via Rosies, it will be entirely the practitioners own entity. Please note this opportunity is not available to practitioners living in Glasgow and Edinburgh. This is to ensure we are maintaining a commitment to support Scottish practitioners holistically.

We are currently taking an open call submission for the pamphlet series from Scottish artists/writers with a self-defined marginalised writing practice.

To ensure a non-hierarchical and fair approach to selecting a practitioner for this opportunity, one submission will be selected through a random number generator. The selected practitioner will receive a 6-months period of artistic support and the production of a solo pamphlet, self-published with the support of RDP (with a print run of 100), utilising our printer at the Burning House Books hub.

The selected emerging writers project receives the following package of support:

– £500 fee

– a modest travel and accessibility budget

– an editing meeting with RDP to develop the project

– a second edit meeting with Aimee Bea Ballinger

– a final draft session with a proof-reader

– a two-hour learning session with a graphic designer

– a printing budget to make a run of 100 Pamphlets using the RDP printer

– a distribution workshop and info session with RDP.
